Colors and Creativity: A Preschool Game Idea to Practice Color Names in Any Language

Colors and Creativity: A Preschool Game Idea to Practice Color Names in Any Language - Free printables of colour names in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and a BLANK version to add more languages.

Inside: Preschool game where the children come up with ideas of round-shaped things that have a specific color. Includes free color names template in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.

If you are teaching names of colors to kids (in any language) you should try this idea.

Your kids will use their creativity to come up with things that include a circle shape as a base and have a specific color.

Video:

Watch and share this video on Facebook.

The colors included are: red, blue, green, yellow, pink, orange, purple, gray, black, brown and white.

To keep it multilingual, the PDF is available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish as well as a BLANK version so you can add the names of the colors yourself in any other language(s).

Need more languages? Add them to the BLANK version.

2. Using the circle shape as a base, the kids should come up with a drawing of something that is mainly of the color named at the top of each page. This will help to exercise their creativity as well as their color identification skills.

3. Now it’s time to add color with crayons, paint, use it as a playdough mat, or do whatever the kids decide with whatever materials are available to them.

Idea twist:

  • Practice with many combinations of shapes and colors. Use a black marker to draw different non-circle shapes that the kids can use as a base for their designs. Can you think of something yellow and triangular that is not an Angry Bird? ?

DIY Addition Machine – A fun way to learn addition

A nice teacher from Mexico sent me this video where he used the Animal Numbers to make an “addition Machine” (Máquina de sumar, in Spanish).

He used two painted toilet rolls and taped them to a shoe box.

Above each of the toilet rolls he placed one of the free number flash-cards to indicate how many pom-pons the student should introduce. Then the child only needs to count the total number of pom-pons in the box to know the answer.

Another teacher from a Facebook group commented that the machine could be improved by placing a “+” symbol between the flash-cards.

If you make anything with this free numbers printable, please consider sending me your video to be featured in my Facebook Page so other teachers can get inspired by your idea.

Help your kid (and yourself) with a Multilingual Alphabet

This ABC Poster comes with 26 kid-attractive illustrations of things that start with the same letter in these five languages:

English, Spanish, French, Italian* and Portuguese.

Romanian, German, Swedish and Catalan have also been mentioned as suitable languages for this alphabet by the multilingual parents community (though I can’t corroborate that 100%).

* Italian language notice: Certain letters are included that do not appear in the original / traditional / “purist” alphabet (J,K,W, X and Y). This is because with globalization and the importation of foreign words these words are now used by Italians. For example, ‘Jazz’ or ‘Kiwi’.
